Carew Fest:
branding & marketing events
Annual music and beer festival
Branding / Brand Strategy / Campaign Design & Development
An annual event needs branding and design that packs a punch year after year.
The challenge
New owners took over this long-running family-friendly festival – it was time for a rebrand. They needed bold, memorable branding that would perform well now and in years to come.
The festival team also needed marketing and production for every stage of the event. From pre-festival promotion, to on-site signage and banners, to event merchandise. Last-minute event updates also had to be considered – festivals are in constant motion, never static.
The solution
I created branding and marketing that is bold and fun, yet legible and memorable.
The brand system is also budget-friendly. After completing the brand design and core marketing elements, I created a DIY system that the festival team could use to make on-the-fly updates.
Event marketing
Pre-event marketing
Posters, banners, flyers, social media posts & videos
On-site event materials
Signage, stage banner, posters
Merchandise
Festival cups, temporary tattoos
Festival updates were shared on social media, with carousel posts and videos featuring the daily band lineup and a long list of participating breweries.

The Result:
“We wanted the event art to generate excitement. Each year, when the posters go up, before even reading them, we want people to instantly recognise it as Carew Fest, and think – I’d better save the date!
Joanie definitely achieved that, we love it!”Jon & Millie Coward, Owners, Black Bear Pub Group
Brand Strategy
I developed a logo that incorporated the Carew Arms historical lion and the festival’s musical theme.
Two Logo Variations
Annual logo
This version is used for printed materials such as announcement posters. It’s also on social media, where festival information is updated.
Evergreen logo
This undated version is used for bulk-purchased items that may be used in future years, such as festival cups. It’s also used on banners and other reusable signage, saving money and reducing landfill waste.
The logos are bold, graphic, and black-and-white, making them suitable for a wide range of media and merchandise.
Brand Graphics
Interchangeable elements
A swirly background, musical notes, bunting, and colour overlays were developed to use in both digital and print media.
Flexible brand system
Updates and announcements are key to event marketing, so the brand design elements were formatted and uploaded to Canva for the festival team to DIY parts of the campaign. Perfect for things like last-minute booth signs and social posts.
Colours & Fonts
Colours
I created a lively, celebratory, family-fun colour palette. Semi-transparent overlays were added to the palette to darken and lighten backgrounds, improving text legibility as needed.
Fonts
We opted for a contemporary feel that won’t tire after the first year or two. Modern font styles yet built to last.
