Wivey Kitchen: building a website for multiple audiences
Wivey Kitchen – a community food charity
Website Design / Copywriting / Development / Strategy
Strategy and planning are essential if your business speaks to multiple audiences.
The challenge
Wivey Kitchen needed to speak to three primary audiences: volunteers, individuals seeking help, and donors. The website’s text and navigation had to seamlessly direct each visitor to the right place.
The charity also planned to expand its services and needed to learn how to manage the website for future edits.
The solution
I spent significant time mapping the site. Once a clear plan with multiple user journeys was defined, the organisation signed off, and the build began.
I wrote top-level copy to help visitors navigate the website and understand how the organisation serves the community. Images were sourced from volunteers, saving photography costs.
After the website launch, I delivered Zoom support and video training sessions so that charity staff were ready to write blog posts and make editorial changes.
Three different audiences are directed to three dedicated pages using clear navigation in the menu and throughout the home page.

The Result:
“Joanie helped us organise and clarify our information. It was a big job, but we’re so pleased with the results. We have a website that works very well for everyone in our Wivey Kitchen community.”
Gill Doolin, Wivey Kitchen
Design & Build
Once each visitor type and journey was mapped, I was ready to design and build the website.
Colours
I selected a palette that complemented their existing logo and food images. The colours are friendly and cheerful, reflecting the nature of the volunteers who run the charity.
Fonts
Fonts were chosen with readability in mind. Additionally, larger-than-average paragraph type was used throughout the site to ensure legibility for all visitors.
The website was built on Squarespace, with fonts chosen from the Squarespace library, eliminating the need to purchase them separately.
Graphic elements
I used icons and illustrations as visual references and to enhance the website’s user-friendliness.
